Sveinstindur

The old farmers’ sheep roundup hut was resorted by Utivist in the autumn of 1999. Now it is put to good use and fits well into the landscape. It is heated with a small oil furnace. Food is cooked on a gas-stove and all necessary utensils are available. During summer the hut has running water. It accommodates 18 people.

About Sveinstindur

The Sveinstindur hut was previously used by farmers when gathering their sheep from the highlands, but members of Útivist rebuilt it some years ago. The old walls of stone were used, and the cultural icelandic building tradition kept. The rebuilding was a success, and the hut harmonizes with the beautiful nature. Skaftá river runs past the hut, and all around grows especially green moss.

How to get there?

When driving towards Sveinstindur hut by road F208, a right turn is taken to road F235 which leads to Langisjór. South of Langisjór, close to Sveinstindur mountain, an eastward turn is taken to a path which leads down to Skaftá river, and then driven 1 km north towards the hut. GPS-waypoints of those crossroads are N64°06,456 / W18°26,765. Beware that in the early summer months there could be sandpits on the path.
